Alessandro Baù climbed huge “Via dei cinque di Valmadrera”

The NW face of Mount Civetta, in the heart of the Dolomites, is one of the most impressive wall of the Alps. C.A.M.P. athlete Alessandro Baù loves this stone marvel, where early September he achieved the 6th ascent of the huge Via dei cinque di Valmadrera, first climbed in winter 1972 by a strong Italian team leaded by Gianni Rusconi. The route crosses the highest sector of the face, passing through an overhanging yellow wall that looks like an enormous heart. Alessandro and his friends Lorenzo D'Addario and Alex Corrò climbed the 1350 meters long way with a bivouac, reaching the summit via the last pitches of Nuvole barocche. «The Via dei cinque di Valmadrera is a beautiful climb – Baù says – and the rock is good except for two pitches».

In a few days Alessandro, together with D'Addario, Matteo Baù and Claudia Mario, will leave Italy for a six weeks climbing trip in the Usa. The team will climb in Yosemite Valley, Red Rocks, Zion and Indian Creek; they have not an established plan yet, “only” a lot of dreams!

Before the travel, Alessandro will give a free entrance lecture on his major ascents on 20th September at 8:45 pm in Graziani Institute in Bassano del Grappa. For more information (only in Italian): www.caibassanograppa.com/item/serate-d-autunno-2013.
